5e Inspiration android beta test 1

I just released the first Android beta test for Inspiration 5e. This test concentrates on dungeon exploration, levels 1 to 7.

You can download the APK [Jun 2 Edit: I’ve removed this build, in preparation of releasing a new build with fixes and new features]

Installation instructions: Follow the link above. You’ll need to say OK to install an untrusted app, and grant permissions for the app to look at your contacts and location. Note: I don’t save or share this information. I ask for photo permissions so that I can allow you to share a bug screenshot with me. I don’t use or look at location data at all, and I don’t know why the app asks. I’ll fix this in future versions.

Here’s what I’d like you to test:
-Turn on Map Mode and explore a dungeon
-Browse for a monster or spell

Here’s what I’d like you to tell me:
-Is it obvious how to save or reroll dungeon rooms, encounters, and treasure? With Map Mode on, is it obvious how to explore the dungeon?
-Is it obvious how to look up a monster or spell?
-When you restart the app, are your settings and Saved items saved?
-What are your biggest annoyances?
-Any suggestions or feature requests?

It wasn’t immediately obvious how to save or reroll, though I figured it out pretty quick, but not before it rerolled something I might have wanted to save. A confirmation might be a good idea. This looks really good to start. I can see it as very useful for solo dungeons when I am stuck at home and no one is available to play on line. Or, to spark some ideas. Will comment more after playing with it a bit.

Google Pixel 2 phone with current OS
    * I don’t know why it asked me for access to files on installation
    * I didn’t have to answer a location or contacts question on my phone, though
    * There was a longish wait with a white screen before it opened
    * I’m not quite sold by the “save” action’s visuals, I wasn’t sure it was working until saw that my number of saved things went up each time
    * A couple of times there was confusion between “reroll” and going to some hyperlinked details, such that when I returned from the details I had rerolled. Seems to happen if you touch a link but move left enough that reroll is triggered too?

  3. JLC says:

Galaxy A50 phone running Android version 10, One UI version 2.0

Phone refuses to allow install as it will simply say ‘unable to install 3rd party software’
(or similar sounding message). So I’m not getting the option to ‘ok to install untrusted app’ :-/

  4. Will says:

    Galaxy J7 V, Android 9, One UI 1.1

    * Reroll of rooms, encounters, etc., isn’t initially obvious or intuitive. Once you read the tutorial/instructional text, it then becomes openly user friendly. Dungeon exploration has a better feel due to icons providing instruction/guidance.

    * Search function worked as intended. CR/Rarity slider was curious until used, then became self apparent.

    * Personal settings and items saved as intended.

    * Hyperlinked text embedded inside of a slide enabled block caused hyperlink to be selected when reroll was intended.

    * Maybe separate the controls of the hyperlink select and the save/reroll functions by altering the slide function to work deliberately (tap-hold-slide) or change the hyperlink select to a double-tap control.

  5. mAc Chaos says:

I get an error clicking the link.

  6. Ixthizzar says:

I also got an error from the link.

  7. Prostetnik says:

I also get an error. “an error occurred while processing this directive” when I click the link, and a download that stops immediately when I try to rightclick->download link

  8. Paul says:

Sorry guys – I removed the file, so I’ll deactivate this link. I’ve updated the build to the point where this isn’t a valuable test anymore – there are a lot of fixes and new features.
