name day: Red Day at Redberry

This is another phrase that came to me when I was half-asleep.

It has an ominous sound, but I can’t quite think of what it can mean. Any ideas?

Reminds me of Bad Day at Black Rock.

Perhaps it refers to the infamous incident at Redberry Harbor where the local fishermen & merchant ships have an annual race for a hefty purse put forth by the local governor. At least, until last year when all competing ships met a grizzly fate. Something sucked all of the ships below the surface and killed all of their crews. The river was said to have run red for three days following the tragedy…

Will the race be on for this year? Maybe if a band of adventures hired by the governor can rid the lake of whatever beast lay within its depths.

It could be that one day, when the peasants trampled the redberries to make Redberry wine, what flowed from the vats was not juice…

Redberry is clearly a Halfling village. Red Day is the name they give to the day of their conversion to Communism.

Red Day is merely a seemingly innocuous but actually quite ominous day that happens once a year in the village of Redberry where all the villagers don Red Robes and pass through the village doing their day to day routines but in deadly silence. Strangely they get very excited about Red Day. A typical conversation with a traveler might go as follows:

Villager: Will you be staying for Red Day?

    Traveler: What is Red Day?

Villager: You mustn’t miss Red Day! It’s only a day away!

Traveler: Is it some kind of celebration?

Villager: Oh… you’ll see… (The villager smiles and presents the traveler with a red cloak)
